Editors’ Notes Eclectic alternative rock band Cake caught on in the ‘90s with a blend of funk, garage rock, lounge music, country, and whatever else inspired them at any given moment. Like fellow genre-benders They Might Be Giants and Ween, Cake arrived at their post-punk sound via the distinct musical personalities within the band, such as the literary deadpan sarcasm of John McCrea's vocal, and Vince DiFiore's mariachi-esque trumpet lines. Predictably unpredictable, the band never stopped winning over mainstream rock fans, especially with 2001's Comfort Eagle.
