Brendan Benson Essentials

Brendan Benson received considerable critical praise for 1996's One Mississippi and 2002's Lapalco, though it wasn't until he got a little help from a fellow Detroiter that his solo career gained significant commercial traction. Having a fan in Jack White will do that, and the two went on to form The Raconteurs with Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler in 2005. The alt-rock supergroup's success didn't take away from Benson's own work, though, as he's expanded his alt-country sound considerably on LPs like 2012's What Kind of World, even starting his own label in 2010.
