Bolt Thrower Essentials

When Bolt Thrower first emerged in the late '80s, the death metal of these imposing Brits sounded like it was forged in the mucky bowels of a sewage-treatment plant. The bulldozing riffs powering “World Eater” come caked in grimy, grindcore-like crud, while the wall of rage “In Battle There Is No Law” hits crusty and chaotic speeds. “No Guts, No Glory,” from 1998, finds the growled ruminations of singer Karl Willetts woven into startlingly swift tempo changes and sharply cut groove work, qualities that the band utilized throughout their career.
