Blondie Essentials

Bred in the NYC punk scene that formed around CBGB in the mid-'70s, Blondie became the face of New Wave after glamming up, going pop, and rocking the disco. Frontwoman Debbie Harry plays both luminous siren and cool subversive, snaking around the shimmering beats of "Heart of Glass" before snarling through bouncy retro-rocker "One Way or Another" and proving herself as a rapper on "Rapture." The rest of the band matches her chameleonic charms, sounding just as cozy alongside producer Giorgio Moroder on the dizzying dance groove of "Call Me" as on the sunny reggae cover "The Tide Is High."
