BiS Essentials

BiS (Brand-new idol Society) wanted to mix up the Japanese idol world from the very start, and by the time they disbanded in 2014 they had done just that. Fronted by rocker Pour Lui, BiS rejected the usual peppy sounds of idol pop in favor of something darker—songs loaded with loud guitars and at times veering into pure gabber. Their sheer pop catchiness was made uneasy and interesting by the off-kilter elements. Coupled with an edgy image, BiS was like looking at idol music in a broken mirror. Their dark take on J-pop continues to influence new acts even after they've called it a day.
