Australian pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer had no second thoughts about releasing their latest album CALM right as the world was hunkering down in light of an unprecedented pandemic. “We really wanted people to hear it—no matter the circumstances,” singer and guitarist Michael Clifford tells Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “It felt unfair not to give fans an album they’d be waiting so patiently for.” In between promoting the album via teleconferencing, they’ve been using the time to hone their production skills, go out on hour-long morning walks, and listen to music that played a pivotal part in their lives—including Coldplay’s 2014 album Ghost Stories, a personal favorite of vocalist Luke Hemmings. “I thought it was so beautifully written,” he says, “and it basically lived with me for a year and a half and really, really made me gain a new respect for Coldplay.” On this exclusive Apple Music playlist curated by 5SOS, they’ve included a selection of alt-rock royalty, both new (Tame Impala, Portugal.
