Angie Stone Essentials

Despite being a member of the old school hip-hop group The Sequence in the early-‘80s, Angie Stone found her true voice as part of the neo soul movement by notching co-writing credits on D'Angelo's debut album before releasing her own Black Diamond project in 1999. Her follow up, 2001's Mahogany Soul, featured hits that tapped into the song-writing talent of Raphael Saadiq and a choice sample from The O'Jays. Three more albums before the end of the decade underscored the South Carolina-born singer's talent.
