Editors’ Notes With their breezy sound, pop hooks, and folkie harmonies, America defined '70s pop in the U.S. The duo scored seven Top 10 singles, two platinum albums and three gold records. Though they were sometimes likened to Neil Young and The Byrds, who seem like undeniable influences, America embraced a more pop-friendly feel. In fact, they scored some of their biggest hits while working with Beatles producer George Martin. Like most of their peers, America saw their career take a downward slide toward the end of the '70s, but they managed to rally with a brief comeback in the early '80s.
