When Lukas Strobel began his music career in 2006, he didn’t want to be a solo artist. So he dreamed up a group: Alligatoah, comprising two of his alter-egos. Strobel is both rapper Kaliba 69 and producer DJ Deagle, and it’s that kind of creative thinking that has come to define him. Inventive instrumentation and an ironic approach to lyricism have marked him out as a unique hip-hop voice in his native Germany, where he scored hits with his first two albums. The Lower Saxony maverick has built a wild musical world, one where the standard rules of rap don’t apply.
