After fronting alt-rockers Teleradio Donoso from 2005 to 2009, Chilean singer/songwriter Alex Anwandter embarked on a solo career that has been notable for squeezing incisive political commentary into big, bold synth-pop jams. On 2012 album Rebeldes he combines house and ‘80s beats with an LGBTQ agenda, but it’s tracks such as “Siempre Es Viernes En Mi Corazón” and "El Sonido de los Corazones Que Se Quiebran" from acclaimed 2016 album Amiga that hit the hardest, suffusing infectiously groovy indie pop with powerful anti-bigotry messages.
