About We Are Muffy

As We Are Muffy, the acoustic indie folk duo of Nick Duffy and Angeline Morrison draw on the spare, haunted folk and sweeter folk-pop of the late '60s, while approaching them with a healthy dose of ironic whimsy. In addition to elegant harmonies and a strong British sensibility, their debut album, 2018's The Charcoal Pool, incorporated objects like bottle tops and eating utensils alongside more typical folk instruments. Formed in Cornwall, England by the Lilac Time's Nick Duffy, and Angeline Morrison of retro-soul group the Mighty Sceptres, We Are Muffy grew out of a collection of covers conceptualized by Duffy titled Simulacra Two. Duffy needed a female vocalist for the album, reached out to Morrison, and the duo ended up sharing credit on the early 2017 release. In the process of recording it, the pair discovered that they shared the same hometown of Birmingham, and began writing songs about their memories of growing up there. Released by Tapete Records in 2018, the resulting album, The Charcoal Pool, presented their recollections with a gentle but off-kilter folk. ~ Marcy Donelson
