About Virna Lisi

Virna Lisi started as a post-punk band. Over time, the band incorporated elements of Brazilian folk music, such as samba, congada, moda de viola, and the marujada. It was the first punk band to do so, influencing Chico Science, Nação Zumbi, Raimundos, and others. After some years of work, they recorded a video for their song "Esperar o Quê," which was shown on MTV Brazil. Their first album came in 1992 (Esperar o Quê, Tinitus), along with several opportunities such as opening rock festivals, including the Monsters of Rock Tour (1995) in Brazil and Argentina. They recorded two more albums before their dissolution in 1997. In 2000, César Maurício, Ronaldo Gino, and Marcelo de Paula played together for the first time in almost three years at the Pop Rock Brasil Festival, for over 20,000 people. It was then that Virna Lisi's founders Maurício and Gino formed Radar Tantã, which won the Video Music Brasil Award (MTV Brazil) in 2000. The Virna Lisi tradition was also continued by ex-member Marcelo de Paula, who formed the Paula. ~ Alvaro Neder
