About Vincent d'Indy

Vincent d'Indy (1851-1931) was a French composer of the late Romantic period, who was strongly influenced by his teacher, Franck, and in turn had a profound effect on his students, Madetoja and Roussel. D'Indy was a staunch conservative who held fast to the classical ideals of Beethoven, though he admired such Romantics as Wagner, Liszt, and Brahms. Yet while he proved successful in his time, with six operas to his credit and numerous works in orchestral, chamber, piano, and vocal genres, his resistance to modern trends forced his music into obscurity. D'Indy was also a noted author of several books.
