Trio Oriental

About Trio Oriental

Dancer Sibel Nefa was so frustrated by the lack of an Eastern jazz dance style for adult women that she formed a troupe, Trio Oriental, in 1991. The group, which now includes Sahirrnee and Shirinshah, as well as Nefa, continues to explore a diverse range of dance traditions through solo and group performances. Nefa, who hails from a musical family, has studied music and dance since childhood. As a youngster, she studied organ and flute and attended ballet and jazz dance classes. She began conducting Eastern dance workshops in Egypt in 1987. The three women of Trio Oriental continue to balance their performance schedule with work as instructors in a dance school in Brunschweig. ~ Craig Harris
