About Thibault Noally

As soloist, concertmaster of Les Musiciens du Louvre-Grenoble, and leader of his own ensemble, Les Accents, the French violinist Thibault Noally has been on the cutting edge in the interpretation of Baroque music. Noally was born in 1982 and had top teachers from the beginning of his student career, including Irina Medvedeva, Yuko Mor, and Maurice Talvat. He attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, studying with Lydia Mordkovitch, but it was here that he became interested in early music and took classes with Trevor Pinnock, Margaret Faultless, and Micaëla Comberti. Noally landed positions and guest appearances with Orfeo 55, Opus 5, Ensemble Baroque de Limoges, Concerto Köln, and Ensemble Matheus, among other groups, and in 2006 he became concertmaster under leader Marc Minkowski with the historical-instrument group Les Musiciens du Louvre-Grenoble, a position he has continued to hold. Noally has also served as guest concertmaster with the pioneering Polish early instrument group Sinfonia Varsovia, and he has performed with such famed singers as Cecilia Bartoli and Philippe Jaroussky. Broadening his talents into conducting, he led Les Musiciens du Louvre-Grenoble and countertenor Jaroussky in a performance at the Salzburg Mozartwoche in 2011. His repertory extends as far forward as Mozart, and in 2013 he returned to the Salzburg Mozartwoche for a historical-instrument series of Mozart's works for violin and keyboard with harpsichordist Francesco Corti. In July 2014, Noally founded Les Accents at the Baroque International Opera Festival in Beaune, France; the group has specialized in Italian Baroque sacred music and other vocal and instrumental repertory of the 17th and 18th centuries. Les Accents have given Noally a stage for his improvisatory realizations of Baroque violin music and also for his interest in opera: they performed a new reconstruction of Vivaldi's 1735 opera Tamerlano in Beaune in 2016. The group released the album Venezia 1700 on the Aparte label in 2016 and followed that up with Oratorio (2018), on the same label. ~ James Manheim
