About The Outlaws

Best-known for the 1970's FM radio staple/righteous guitar jam "Green Grass and High Tides," Tampa, Florida-based Southern rock band the Outlaws never scaled the heights of contemporaries Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Allman Brothers, but nevertheless garnered a loyal following. Formed in 1974 and led by guitarist/songwriter Hughie Thomasson, the group weathered many personnel changes (and tragic deaths) but never strayed too far from its winning combination of smooth vocal harmonies and serpentine lead guitar lines. After reaching its commercial peak in 1981 with a raucous version of the Vaughan Monroe classic “Ghost Riders in the Sky,” the Outlaws continued on for several decades, often under the auspices of original lead guitarist Henry Paul.
