The Lonely Island
About The Lonely Island
Formed by Saturday Night Live alumni Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg, and Jorma Taccone, The Lonely Island helped pioneer the digital age of musical comedy.
∙ Their 2005 SNL Digital Short “Lazy Sunday” was one of the first online videos of any kind to go viral, followed by the Emmy-winning smash “Dick In a Box,” which featured Justin Timberlake.
∙ The double-Platinum, Grammy-nominated “I’m On a Boat,” featuring T-Pain, helped make 2009’s Incredibad one of their four releases to top Billboard’s Comedy Albums chart.
∙ Rapper Kendrick Lamar and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine appeared on “Yolo”—one of four No. 1 hits from The Wack Album and one of Rolling Stone’s 100 Best Songs of 2013.
∙ Samberg has portrayed prank-loving Detective Jake Peralta on the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine since 2013, and he’s earned a Best Actor Golden Globe Award for his work.
∙ The Lonely Island cowrote and sang on Tegan and Sara’s “Everything is AWESOME!!!,” the Oscar-nominated theme for 2014’s The Lego Movie.
∙ As producers, they’ve worked on such critically acclaimed projects as the coming-of-age comedy series PEN15 and the 2020 indie film Palm Springs, which also starred Samberg.
