While Laurie Berkner began her career playing in rock bands, she says children’s music “opened up creativity in me that I never knew I had.”
∙ Early in her career as a children’s musician, she played birthday parties for $125 a performance.
∙ Berkner launched her own label, Two Tomatoes Records, in 1998 and has remained an independent artist ever since.
∙ “The queen of kids’ music,” according to People magazine, Berkner is considered a “kindie rock” pioneer on par with Dan Zanes and They Might Be Giants.
∙ In 2013, she wrote music for the TV series Sing It, Laurie! and the off-Broadway children’s book adaptation Wanda’s Monster The Musical.
∙ The Laurie Berkner Band has appeared on such TV programs as Today, Jack's Big Music Show, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
∙ Laurie Berkner Band members include Grammy nominee Brady Rymer of the jam band From Good Homes.
