About The Lancastrians
The Lancastrians made their recording debut in 1964 with a version of Gale Garnett’s million-seller ‘We’ll Sing In The Sunshine’ but, despite a crafted production by Shel Talmy, this personable cover version barely scraped the UK Top 50. The UK group’s breezy, if anonymous style was later captured on ‘Let’s Lock The Door (and Throw Away The Key)’ (1965), first recorded by Jay And The Americans, and ‘The World Keeps Going Round’ (1966), donated by fellow-Talmy protéges the Kinks. Jimmy Page, then a busy session-man, played on most of their issued recordings. The producer’s interest in the Lancastrians waned as their singles proved increasingly unsuccessful and they subsequently disbanded.
