The Karl Hendricks Trio

About The Karl Hendricks Trio

Formed in Pittsburgh in 1991, the Karl Hendricks Trio (of which Hendricks is the only constant member) combine the scruffy guitar sound pioneered by Dinosaur Jr. with a literate, frequently pessimistic worldview. Their 1992 debut, BUICK ELEKTRA, a lo-fi song cycle about heartbreak and dejection, garnered attention from college radio and indie rock fanzines. SOME GIRLS LIKE CIGARETTES and SINGS ABOUT MISERY AND WOMEN, which followed in 1993, saw Hendrix covering similar sonic territory with increased confidence. FOR A WHILE, IT WAS FUNNY (1996), and especially DECLARE YOUR WEAPONS (1998), boasted glossier production and a more outward lyrical outlook. Later albums such as THE JERKS WIN AGAIN (2003) and THE WORLD SAYS (2007) were a further refinement of Hendricks's signature sound.
