The Giddens Sisters are the sibling duo of Rhiannon Giddens and Lalenja Harrington, North Carolina natives who have been singing together since childhood. Rhiannon attended Ohio's Oberlin Conservatory, where she studied and sang opera before becoming fascinated with folk and Celtic music, eventually learning to play the fiddle and banjo and forming the critically acclaimed black string band the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Lalenja sang with a cappella group the Princeton Tigerlilies and was active in the slam poetry scene. On the sisters' debut album, 2013's I Know I've Been Changed, Rhiannon and Lalenja combined both their musical paths into a completely unique blend of Southern gospel duets, old-time Appalachian music, and spoken word poetry. ~ Steve Leggett
