About The Ben Taylor Band

b. Benjamin Simon Taylor, 22 January 1977, Massachusetts, USA. Singer-songwriter Ben Taylor can certainly boast an impressive musical heritage; he is the son of famous US artists James Taylor and Carly Simon. After a period spent travelling in his late teens, Taylor opted to follow in the footsteps of his parents and launch a music career. He appeared as a guest on stage and in the studio with both his parents before signing a recording contract with the Work Group, an offshoot of Sony Records. Taylor recorded his debut Green Dragon, Name A Fox in 1998, but unfortunately the album was shelved with the demise of Work Group. Taylor carried on working, recording a version of ‘My Romance’ with his mother for a Ralph Lauren television advertisement, and set up the Ben Taylor Band with Larry Ciancia (drums), Adam MacDougall (keyboards), Joseph Dunne (bass), and Rick Musallam (guitar). The band’s self-described ‘neo-psychedelic folk funk’ was given a wider airing at support slots for Willie Nelson and Dar Williams, among others, although Taylor continued to perform regularly with his parents. After his experiences with Sony, Taylor opted to take an independent route for the release of the debut album by the Ben Taylor Band. Famous Among The Barns was made available via Taylor’s website in July 2002, and given a wider release the following year. Another Run Around The Sun, which followed three years later, was an assured recording leaving the listener in no doubt as to who Taylor’s father is.
