About Sun City Girls

Born out of the same Arizona punk scene as the Meat Puppets, but even further afield than the Kirkwood brothers, the Sun City Girls became underground legends based in large part on their singular approach to musical experimentation. Brothers Richard and Allan Bishop and drummer Charles Gocher pulled from diverse influences such as Indian modal music, ragtime, and free jazz to create a chaotic, mercurial style of art rock. Although aggressively independent, the group still maintained a solid following for over three decades thanks to their prolific output. Allan Bishop would go on to start the esteemed Sublime Frequencies field recordings label; Richard Bishop embarked on a successful career as a solo guitarist; and, sadly, Gocher died in 2007 after a battle with cancer. (The Bishop brothers embarked on a tribute tour shortly after.)
