A singer and songwriter associated with intimate lyrics and lilting melodies, Sophiemarie.B broke through in 2017 with the social media hit "Hey Little Girl," a song she wrote to her younger self about a childhood incident of domestic abuse.
As a teenager in San Diego, California, Sophie Marie Braunstein shared her covers of songs by artists including Oh Wonder and Hailee Steinfeld before her own song, "Hey Little Girl," went viral in 2017. It was streamed over a million times, first when it was stolen from a social media post and claimed by an imposter, then again with Sophiemarie.B receiving credit. She shared live performance clips of original songs such as "And the Long Drive Home" and "Can't Decide" before the end of the year. Accompanying herself on either piano or guitar, she followed those in 2018 with covers of Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish, among others, as well as her own "Too Far Gone." She reportedly had hundreds of original songs in hand by the time she signed with Crowned Records/300 Entertainment in late 2018. ~ Marcy Donelson
