About Smithfield
There’s a simple way to sum up the sound Trey Smith and Jennifer Fielder create as Smithfield: she’s a little bit country; he’s a little bit rock ‘n’ roll. Although the two got together as a duo in 2011, they’d known each other since they were little kids in Waxahachie, Texas, thanks to their grandparents’ long-running friendship. They headed to Nashville in 2012 to pursue their Music City dreams, and as far back as their early singles, it’s easy to hear their chemistry. Influenced by groups like ‘90s rockers The Goo Goo Dolls, Smith injects 2018’s bold “Our World” with guitar-fuelled dynamism, while on the heartbroken “Hey Whiskey,” Fielder channels her country heroes in the timeless twang of her voice. But Smithfield is much more than the sum of its parts—the duo’s playful, back-and-forth energy drives the pumped-up “If You Were Mine,” and they’re equally irresistible as they seduce each other on 2021’s slow-burning “Something Sexy.” In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. One of my (Jenn) earliest musical memories is watching LeAnn Rimes perform on Johnny High's in Texas. It was the same stage I performed on as a kid. Trey's earliest musical memory is watching the Garth Brooks live in Central Park Special. What are your top three all-time favorite albums on Apple Music and why? Keith Urban, Golden Road The Goo Goo Dolls, Dizzy Up the Girl Lady A, Need You Now Golden Road is an album we both love. I (Trey) found it inspiring because it showed me that rock music also had a place in country. The Goo Goo Dolls are my favorite band. Need You Now is the album that made us want to be a country duo. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. “We'll Figure It Out" Our artist career has been filled with so many ups and downs. We wrote this song to encourage ourselves to keep chasing our dream. It's message has touched so many people because sometimes we all just need to hear that it's going to be O.K. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Our Grand Ole Opry debut is definitely one of the most memorable moments in our career so far. To stand on that stage where so many country greats have stood, is an experience we will never forget. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? There's a lot of things! For me (Trey), it's playing the Houston Rodeo, headlining the Ryman Auditorium, and collaborating with Keith Urban. For Jenn, it would be winning a Grammy, making our national T.V. debut, and touring with Little Big Town.
