Drawing inspiration from classic 1950s and '60s hard bop, the Shintaro Nakamura Quintet debuted in New York in the mid-'80s. Led by Japanese bassist Shintaro Nakamura, the group released one album, Evolution, in 1984. Nakamura continued to perform in Japan, and Evolution was reissued on London's BBE label in 2021.
