In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I grew up near a chapel, within earshot of its organ’s enormous pipes. Whenever the organist practiced he’d let rip with the pedals. The sub vibrations rattled my innards, and I’ve been addicted to bass ever since. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Herbie Hancock, Head Hunters Miles Davis Quintet, Workin' With The Miles Davis Quintet Remastered Roberta Flack, First Take (Deluxe Edition) Herbie Hancock creates inspirational, inventive, accessible music with endless depth. First Take is raw & authentic with emotional heft. Workin’ captures a perfect balance of cool freshness & deft musical invention. Not bad for half a day’s work. Tony Kofi)” Ury Bop is the song that opens the album and live shows. It serves as a statement of intent: the importance of melody & infectious grooves with harmonic and rhythmic interest, and a vehicle for group and solo improvisation. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My memory of our debut at EFG London Jazz Festival 2023 was reminiscent of a glorified scene from a film set in a jazz club, crossed with a perfect dream. The whole place was full of energy and joy. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I can’t wait to take this group and the music we make to concerts and festivals around the globe and maybe beyond.
