About Shannon Moore

Singer and songwriter Shannon Moore, whose voice bears an uncanny resemblance to Chrissie Hynde's, crafts songs that are sharp and intelligent, full of unique observational detail and big themes, and she isn't afraid to get raw and controversial. Born and raised in Houston, Moore got her first guitar when she was ten years old, and by the time she was 12 she had already written her first song. After a stint at a boarding school in Massachusetts, Moore moved to Los Angeles to attend college, eventually landing a publishing and development deal with Sony Music Publishing. When nothing concrete came out of that deal, she relocated to Vancouver, where she formed the band Deep Julia. The group recorded an album in Oakland, but the project was never mastered or released, and Deep Julia disbanded. Since all of the songs on the ill-fated album were hers, Moore kept shopping the tapes around, and Farren Records eventually agreed to license and release it. The label's distribution fell through, however, and the album once again failed to appear. Moore kept writing and recording, and her songs began showing up regularly on movie and TV soundtracks. LTD, which included some of the songs from the Deep Julia project, finally materialized in 1999 from FMA Records, quickly attracting some excellent reviews. A second album, Evaporate, appeared in 2007 from the fledgling 10 Spot, part of the Water Music Records Group. ~ Steve Leggett
