About Selfish Things

The candid, angst-ridden songs of Selfish Things put a heavier spin on turn-of-the-millennium alt rock and emo pop influences. Formed by songwriter Alex Biro in the mid-2010s, the band made its full-length debut with Logos in 2019. An alumnus of several alternative bands in Toronto and Los Angeles, Biro formed Selfish Things after moving back home to Mississauga, Ontario in suburban Toronto in 2015. Taking the project's name from lyrics in the Jimmy Eat World song "23," he released the song "Spooky Action at a Distance" in 2015 before adding lead guitar Michael Ticar, rhythm guitarist Cam Snooks, and drummer Jordan Trask to the fold the following year. Selfish Things issued an EP called Six Songs in 2017 and opened a Canadian tour for Simple Plan. Their second EP, Vertical Love, was produced by James Paul Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, Paramore) and released in March 2018, with Vertical Love: Reimagined following by mid-year. They prepared their debut album with producer Drew Fulk (As I Lay Dying, Chelsea Grin). With guests including Spencer Chamberlain (Underøath), William Ryan Key (Yellowcard), and Andy Leo (Crown the Empire), the resulting Logos arrived on Pure Noise Records in 2019. ~ Marcy Donelson
