About Sean Slade

As the co-owner of Fort Apache studios in Cambridge, Mass. Sean Slade created a college rock institution. Over the last fifteen years he has produced nearly every Boston band of importance, including Buffalo Tom, Sebadoh, Juliana Hatfield and The Lemonheads, and, along with his partner Paul Kolderie, Slade has had a hand in some of the '90s most influential albums, including Hole's Live Through This and Radiohead's Pablo Honey. Born in upstate New York, Slade attended Yale university in New Haven Connecticut where he played in punk bands with future partner Paul Kolderie. After graduation the two moved to Boston, where there was a thriving scene at the time, and tried to make a go of it as musicians. Soon, however, Slade found himself enjoying work behind the board more than on stage and, along with Kolderie, he opened up the original Fort Apache studios in Roxbury, Mass. The decision coincided with a musical renaissance in their adopted home city and soon the producer was making a name for himself with production credits on breakout acts such as Buffalo Tom and the Lemonheads. After Roxbury was dessimated by crack cocaine Slade and Kolderie expanded and moved their operation to Cambridge, where it still resides today. Comfortable as both a producer and an engineer, Slade recently produced an lp for Warren Zevon. ~ Steve Kurutz
