About Scully

Describing their formula as "Scuzzy guitars, California sunshine, Brooklyn grime," Scully are a band from New York City who mix up garage rock, psychedelia, and hard rock into a uniquely heady brew. The Scully Story begins in 2009, when like-minded California bands the Splinters and the Numerators were hanging out together in Austin, Texas at the South by Southwest Music Conference. The two groups grew to be fast friends, and when the Splinters broke up, Splinters' guitarist and singer Caroline Partamian opted to move to New York. By 2014, Partamian's former bandmates Courtney Gray (guitar and vocals) and Lauren Stern (bass and vocals) moved east to join her and start a new band. Needing a drummer, they initially hooked up with Kyle Bronko Carlson, who produced the group's first demo tape. Carlson also appeared on a split cassette Scully put out in tandem with Las Rosas. But by the time they released a split single with La Luz in August 2015, Carlson was out of the picture, and Scully contacted Burgers Rana, who beat the traps for the Numerators. Rana joined the band, and in mid-2016, Scully released a six-song EP, No Sense. ~ Mark Deming
