About Sarathy Korwar
Sarathy Korwar is a percussionist, composer, and musicologist. His style combines East Indian classical music, jazz, and electronics. After studying with master classical tabla player Pandit Sanju Sahai, he became a fixture on the London scene. Korwar traveled to rural Gujarat to field record the Sidi Troupe of Ratanpur, and later added a studio session from Pune, adding jazz and electronic musicians, resulting in 2016's Day to Day. In 2018, his Upaj Collective -- a tentet split evenly between Indian classical and jazz musicans -- issued My East Is Your West. 2019's More Arriving was a collaborative soundclash wedding hip-hop, EDM, jazz, and Indian music. Korwar reunited with Upaj Collective for Night Dreamer: Direct-To-Disc Sessions and released Kalak in 2022. 2023's KAL, a companion, was improvised and recorded at Real World Studios in late 2020. Those sessions inspired the 2022 album.
