About Sandy Bell

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My earliest memory of music was hearing my sister sing me the lullaby 'Hush Little Baby'. Even as a toddler, I was riveted by it. The song was equally sad and promising. But my sister's voice was always heaven to me. Soon to follow was rock n' roll. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Alice Coltrane, Astral Meditations: The Music of Alice Coltrane Joni Mitchell, Hejira Miles Davis, The Complete Miles Davis Featuring John Coltrane This list could change every day. But today these 3 are right on because to me they sound like psychic explorations that grab music from the ether to bring to us mere mortal bozos. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Autopsy” This song reminds me that a life unexpressed, unlived and unexamined can be a tragic thing. And that compassion is everything. Even for those who have hurt me. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Opening for Rachael Yamagata on tour will always be a magnificent moment in time for me. I was able to explore my own courage as a solo performer, but I also got to watch every night while Rachael ripped our hearts out over and over again. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I want to open for Nick Cave. I want to play with my band at Royal Albert Hall. I want to go to Ireland and feel my ancestors singing with me as I perform. I want my music to be on a soundtrack directed by a female.
