b. 7 December 1948, Henrietta, Oklahoma, USA. Sessions grew up in Bakersfield, California. His first record, in 1957, was a novelty version of Little Richard’s ‘Keep A-Knockin’’ made with Richard’s band. Through a schoolboy friend he knew Herb Henson, the host of a television series, Trading Post, and he became a regular performer. He studied to be a vet but he also recorded for local labels and, joining Gene Autry’s Republic label in 1968, he had regional hits with ‘The Life Of Riley’ and ‘More Than Satisfied’. He moved to Nashville and his songwriting talent was recognized by Hank Cochran. However, his first country hits were with revivals of pop songs, ‘Never Been To Spain’ and ‘Tossin’ And Turnin’’. Over at MCA, he had major country hits in 1977 with ‘Wiggle, Wiggle’ and Bobby Goldsboro’s ‘Me And Millie (Stompin’ Grapes And Gettin’ Silly)’. He failed to consolidate his success and, after being dropped by MCA in 1980, he has hardly recorded since. His last US country chart entry was in 1986 with ‘I Bought The Shoes That Just Walked Out On Me’.
