About Roberto Diaz

Chilean-born violist Roberto Díaz has combined performance with administration as president and CEO of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Díaz held positions with the National Symphony, the Boston Symphony, and the Minnesota Orchestra. From 1996 to 2006, he was principal violist of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He has played concertos with leading orchestra in the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and premiered works by Krzysztosf Penderecki, Jennifer Higdon, and Edison Denisov. Díaz has performed in the Díaz Trio with his brother, cellist Andrés Díaz, and violinist Andrés Cárdenes. His recording career began in 2002 with a CD of virtuoso viola-and-piano music of Henri Vieuxtemps. As director of the Curtis Institute, Díaz has developed several innovative initiatives and building projects. ~ James Manheim
