About Renato D'Aiello

b. 1959, Naples, Italy. Playing saxophones from his early years, D’Aiello developed into an accomplished post bop player who consistently displays his ethnic roots through his choice of material. In 1987 he began his studies at Berklee College Of Music In Boston, Massachusetts. Along the way, he tutored with Steve Grossman, Joe Henderson and Sal Nistico. Since becoming resident in the UK in 1999, D’Aiello has attracted considerable admiring attention from fans and critics alike. Sidemen in his quartet for 2007’s Sintetico were Andrea Pozza (piano), Nicola Muresu (bass) and Keith Copeland (drums). D’Aiello’s repertoire includes original pieces as well as pop and jazz material, such as ‘If I Should Lose You’ and Charles Mingus’ ‘Ellington’s Sound Of Love’ and ‘For Heaven’s Sake’, all polished in a newly gleaming fashion. D’Aiello’s playing of the tenor saxophone is thoroughly contemporary yet contains richly lyrical elements that subtly echo traditions of the past.
