About Real Lulu

Guitarist/vocalist Kattie Dougherty and bassist Sharon Gavlick formed the punk-pop outfit Real Lulu in 1993 with drummer Gregg Spence and quickly established themselves on the local Dayton, Ohio scene. In 1995, the group issued its debut single, "Hell," with production handled by the Breeders' Kim Deal. Spence quit to concentrate full-time on his surf-revival project the Mulchmen, and a series of guest drummers were employed (among them Ben Schelker of the Oxymorons and Tim Taylor of Brainiac) until ex-Breeders drummer Jim Macpherson officially joined in late 1996, the same year the band recorded its first full-length album, We Love Nick. ~ Steve Huey
