About Ray LaMontagne
Ray LaMontagne is an American singer-songwriter known for his emotional songs and tenor vocals. ∙ After hearing Stephen Stills’ “Treetop Flyer” on the radio, he quit his shoe-factory job to pursue music, then recorded a demo and played local venues while working as a tutor. ∙ His 2004 debut LP, Trouble, was a Top 5 UK hit and earned him three Boston Music Awards: Male Singer-Songwriter, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year (for the title track). ∙ From 2008’s Gossip in the Grain through 2014’s Supernova, he had 3 consecutive albums peak at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. ∙ In 2011, God Willin’ & The Creek Don’t Rise won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album, and his alt-country ballad “Beg Steal or Borrow” was nominated for Song of the Year. ∙ Sawyer Fredericks, the 2015 winner of The Voice, performed LaMontagne’s “Please” in the finale, and his version became a Top 40 hit. ∙ My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James produced, sang, and played on LaMontagne’s 2016 album, Ouroboros.
