About Rally Bop

b. Rohan Wilson, 1981, Linstead, St. Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies. In 1991, Wilson moved to New York, USA to be with his family where he continued to harbour aspirations toward a musical career. By his twelfth birthday he began performing songs and writing poetry, which naturally evolved into songwriting. In 1995, Rally Bopp performed at West Indian clubs in and around Queens, New York, where he discovered his calling as a DJ. By 1997, having established his name in the dancehall, he embarked on recording sessions with a variety of producers. His debut release was the demonstrative ‘She’s Like An Angel’, followed by the persuasive ‘Love Me’. Although the songs were not particularly popular Mo Music producer Flabba Malcolm was suitably impressed. The new-found partnership resulted in three top US hits including, ‘Bashy Bashy’, ‘Gwaan Michelle’ and the favoured ‘W-ich Gyall’. In 1998, Rally Bopp took a sabbatical from the music business as he felt his success proved detrimental to his aspirations. Having spent over a year away from the business he felt ready to return by the winter of 1999 when he linked up with Lenky and recorded ‘Who She’. The song proved a radio hit on specialist shows both at home and abroad. His success with Lenky led to a combination hit with Lexxus who, when he performed as Mr. Lex, recorded ‘John Up’ and ‘The Marathon’ on the ‘Bionic’ rhythm. Rally Bopp also gained respect following favourable reviews of a notable stage performance alongside Elephant Man. His popularity resulted in him embarking on sessions for a debut album in 2001 on the strength of his earlier hits. Sadly his quest for fame was injudiciously undermined following the release of ‘Bun Batty Bwoy’, failing to emulate the furore of the early 90s, attributed to artists such as Buju Banton and Shabba Ranks.
