Punk Lurex OK

About Punk Lurex OK

Punk Lurex OK originally began as a tribute band for the legendary Finnish punk band Kollaa Kestää who went under the moniker of Porttikielto. In an odd turn of events, the original guitarist Juha Helminen and drummer Jyrki Siukonen of Kollaa Kestää eventually joined the tribute band to start their own brand of 1977 style Brit-punk. Resulting in Punk Lurex OK, the band debuted their self-released first EP Tappajan Silmät/Paalimaja in 1994 and signed to Hiljaiset Levyt Records soon after. After a lineup shuffle that settled with P. Kaukonen (vocals/guitar), A. Väntänen (guitar), J. Sakki (bass), and J. Huovinen (drums), a slew of releases resulted throughout the '90s. This discography includes 1995's Veljet, Siskot, 1996's Hatut Ja Myssyt, 1999's Prolex, and 2000's TV Smith & Punk Lurex OK: The Future Used to Be Better. ~ Mike DaRonco
