About Pierre Danican Philidor

Pierre Philidor was the son of Jacques Philidor and a performer on wind instruments, primarily the flute. He became a member of the "grande ecurie" from 1697 and a member of the court chapel in 1704. There he was an oboist but joined the chamber of the king in 1712 as a flutist. His compositions include six suites for two horizontal flutes, six suites for three flutes, oboes or violins and some marches. ~ Keith Johnson
