Piano. Italian pianist Piero Bassini's phrasing and inspiration hearken back to the the '60s free movement, though to McCoy Tyner and Bud Powell point out his knowledge of bop and mainstream as well. He's a capable soloist, but plays with more fire and spark in combos than on his solo works, which tend to be inconsistent. ~ Ron Wynn
