About Peter Allen

A popular singer, dancer, and composer, Peter Allen’s big break came in 1964 when he was spotted by Judy Garland and hired to support her in a world concert tour. He eventually composed songs for a variety of artists, including Helen Reddy ("I’ve Been Wanting You So Long"), and Olivia Newton-John ("I Honestly Love You"). He later won an Academy Award, and was nominated for a Grammy for "Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)," written with Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager. During the '80s Allen played several sold-out seasons at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, and co-wrote and starred in the Broadway musical LEGS DIAMOND. He died from an AIDS-related illness in 1992.
