About Nuru MacNamara

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember in Tamale - Ghana, all through the day, my grandfather will play Osibisa's Afro-rock beats, Manu Dibango's "Soul Makossa," and other tracks with captivating sax sounds. These African jazz and early electronic beats shaped my lofi journey. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Fela Kuti, Zombie Manu Dibango, The Very Best of Manu Dibango: Afro Soul Jazz from the Original Makossa Man Osibisa, Sunshine Day - The Pye/Bronze Anthology I choose Osibisa's album for its energy and cultural roots. Manu Dibango's album combines African rhythms with jazz-funk, a nod to our global influence. Fela Kuti drives me with his powerful Afrobeat and bold social themes. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Volta Flow” "Volta Flow" is special to me because it echoes the spirit of the Volta lake and brings back memories of my grandmother. Its soothing rhythms remind me of her resilience and the stories she told. This track feels like home, calming and timeless. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? One of those moments would be when I first noticed how my tracks enhanced productive work among groups of young people I engage with at MacNamara & Co. - a co-working space business. It felt surreal, like my musical vision had come to life. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I need to expand my catalogue, exploring new sounds and collaborations. By pushing my creative boundaries and experimenting with diverse genres, I can reach a wider audience and create more memorable experiences through my music.
