About Mouth Congress

A band led by a pair of non-musicians as interested in inspired outrage as they were in music, Mouth Congress was a queer indie rock group led by Scott Thompson and Paul Bellini, the former a star of the Canadian sketch comedy show Kids in the Hall, and the latter a writer for the series. Their booming drum tracks and chicken-scratch guitar figures had more to do with dance music than punk rock, though the defiant nature of their lyrics -- which often dealt with political and social commentary as well as gay culture and purposefully rude humor -- made clear this was music for the mind as well as the dancefloor. Mouth Congress released no music during their most productive period, but a large sampling of their material (primarily recorded at home on a four-track cassette deck) emerged in 2021 on the collection Waiting for Henry.
