About Michael Boezi

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I was lit up by the energy and ethos of the post-punk era in the early 80s and have been playing music ever since. Hearing for the first time the opening to The Queen Is Dead or the 3rd verse of "Both Hands" by Ani DiFranco were life-changing. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Billy Bragg, Talking with the Taxman About Poetry Bonus Tracks Bob Dylan, Bringing It All Back Home Gang of Four, Entertainment! It's too hard to select only three records – there are so many that have influenced me as an artist and as a person. I consider Billy Bragg, Johnny Marr, Ani DiFranco, John McGeoch, Elvis Costello, Joe Strummer, and many more to be my mentors. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Nothing Left” This song is a good representation of what I'm trying to do as an artist – mix a positive message with something intensely personal. Some of Boston's best musicians helped me realize this song fully – it would not have the same impact without them. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? The most memorable moments always occurs after a live show, where people have told me that my songs meant something to them – that they feel seen or even validated. As a writer, there's no greater compliment than making a real connection with people. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I'm making a directional shift as an artist with a project called (ART)ICULATE – a call to action for artists of all types to help rethink, redefine, and reimagine the world we want to see – one with empathy, equality, and inclusion at its core.
