About Martyr Privates

Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, Martyr Privates play buzzy, straightforward rock & roll that's part punk, part psychedelic, and part lo-fi experimentalism. The band was founded in 2011 by guitarist and singer Cameron Hawes, who previously worked with the groups I Heart Hiroshima and Slug Guts. Teaming with bassist Ashleigh Shipton and drummer Sam Dixon, Martyr Privates released their first single in February 2012, "Bless" b/w "Native Son." By 2014, their following in Australia had grown to the point that after striking a deal with Bedroom Suck Records for local release of their debut album, they also signed an international deal with Fire Records for the U.K. and the U.S. The album, simply titled Martyr Privates, was produced by Luke Walsh of Blank Realm, and was released in September 2014. ~ Mark Deming
