About Luis Muñoz

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. After immigrating from Costa Rica in 1974, and struggling to establish myself as an artist in the USA, I remember finally performing with some of the greatest names in Jazz at the Queen Mary Jazz Fest in Long Beach, CA in the late 70s. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Charlie Haden, Pat Metheny, Beyond the Missouri Sky (Short Stories) Luis Muñoz, The Fruit of Eden (Deluxe Version) Luis Muñoz, The Infinite Dream (feat. Lois Mahalia) One is my very first record as a solo artist, Another one is an album by 2 artists that I admire, which set a standard for beauty, simplicity, artistry and talent for me to look up to. The third one is my very last project Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Preludio y Fin (feat. Magos Herrera)” A composition that expresses my emotional self in a very direct way thru a performance full of space, delicate touch, inner play with the musicians and a superb performance from singer Magos Herrera and everyone else in the recording. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Getting the 11 nominations and 7 ACAM Awards so far from the Academy of Composers and Musical Authors back home, after having left the country over 50 years ago. They seem to not having forgotten about myself, and that is very touching to me! Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Always, my hunger for creativity, for expressing myself thru music, for sharing my soul with the public and my constant desire to search for beauty around me thru sound is never ending. That, and family, is what brings joy to my heart
