About Lowdown Brass Band

A lively multi-member outfit from Chicago, Lowdown Brass Band combine their love of the traditional New Orleans brass band sound with jazz, hip-hop, funk, and soul influences. Formed by multi-instrumentalist Lance Loiselle in the early 2000s, Lowdown Brass Band feature a handful of brass instrumentalists and percussionists, as well as rapper MC Billa Camp. A native of Detroit, Loiselle studied jazz at Chicago's DePaul University, where he first came up with the idea of putting together a New Orleans-style brass band to play cover songs. Later, while playing keyboards with hip-hop outfit Trill Logic, he met Camp and the two began collaborating. The group debuted in 2008 with the eponymous Lowdown Brass Band, followed by several more well-received efforts including 2009's We Just Want to Be and 2014's Lowdown Sounds. In 2018, they delivered their fifth full-length album, Lowdown Breaks, featuring guest appearances by Fada Dougou, Ang 13, Will Silas, and DJ Alo. ~ Matt Collar
