Los del Río

About Los del Río

Spanish duo Antonio Romero Monge and Rafael Ruiz began their musical partnership in the 1960s, but found international fame as Los del Rio in the '90s. Their composition "Macarena" was first released in 1993 and became a hit in Spain, but after an English-language remix by the Bayside Boys in 1995, it ultimately became a worldwide smash, even starting its own dance craze. "Macarena" ascended to number one in the U.S. charts during July 1996 and locked the top spot for 14 weeks, eventually selling over four million copies and becoming the year's biggest single. Los del Rio continued to draw on the popularity of "Macarena" in the following years, even including a version of the song on 2012's Vámonos Que Nos Vamos. ~ John Bush & Jim Allen
